Carnegie Museum of Natural History presents After Dark

The lights are low, the bar is open, and the music is playing. Armed with a cocktail and your closest friend, you venture into a prehistoric world where giant sauropods tower over the bustling crowd and two T-Rexes cast in multi-colored lights are frozen in battle.

This isn’t the museum of your childhood. This is After Dark.

Five times a year, Carnegie Museum of Natural History keeps its doors open late for a 21+ party with bars, live music, and curated programming designed to give guests a whole new museum experience. Each event features a pop-culture inspired theme, unique activities, and shows. Forget your weekend routine or shake up date night. Come see who you’ll meet and what you’ll discover at the museum…After Dark.

Registration for each event includes museum admission; a wide selection of beverages and hors d’oeuvres are available for purchase (cash only). All After Dark guests must be at least 21 years old. Proper identification is required, and all guests must show ID at the door.

After Dark-Potterfest
July 21, 2017
6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Come explore the museum by night this summer at a special 21+ event that is all about witches, wizards, and magic in the natural world. The museum will host a slew of Hogwarts-inspired activities that invite you to step into the world of Harry Potter to brush up on "Potions," "Care of Magical Creatures," and more magical subjects!

Meet live owls, get sorted into a Hogwarts house, and take home your own plant from a "Herbology" lesson. Check out mineral and botany specimens thought to have magical powers, or stare into the "Mirror of Erised" to discover your truest desire. Take a ride around Oakland on Pittsburgh Tour Company's double decker tour bus, and play a round of the wizarding world's favorite sport with the Steel City Quidditch Club!

Polish your wand and wear your best robes for our costume contest, and embark on a wizard-themed scavenger hunt through the museum! Enjoy signature cocktails, and dance to DJ Bill Jakub from Pittsburgh Vibes Unlimited.

Enjoy FREE admission to our summer blockbuster The Power of Poison (usually a $5 additional fee) to discover poison's fascinating role in nature, myth, and literature. Learn more about the exhibition at pop.carnegiemnh.org.

Download a map and list of activities for Potterfest! Maps will also be available on site.

Potterfest is sold out! But tickets for Haunted Museum: Year of the Monster are now on sale.

Haunted Museum: Year of the Monster

Due to popular demand, the museum will hold two events this year on October 21 and 27.

Get ready for a museum monster mash! This year's annual Halloween blowout is all about brutes and beasts in legend and in nature. Come in costume, sip on spooky cocktails, dance to DJ Bill Jakub of Pittsburgh Vibes Unlimited, and check out monstrous specimens. Do not miss hands-on activities, adult trick-or-treating, and more for a ghoulishly good time you can only find in the historic halls of the museum. Costumes are encouraged, but not required. Please note that no weapons (fake or otherwise), masks, or backpacks are allowed. (Face paint is permitted.)
